My interest in computers started between 1985 and 1988 when I saw a computer in the building where my father worked at the time. Our family's first home computer was in 1988. However, it was when I got a laptop, perhaps about 1992, that I became captivated by computers.
I mostly used computers for playing games and perhaps some schoolwork I've forgotten about until we got a modem connection for the computer in the mid-1990s. At that point, I started spending some time on BBSs until we got an internet connection (albeit dial-up).
Here's a copy of something I wrote about 1.5 years ago:
I started trying to use operating systems based on the Linux kernel when I was in high school. It was quite a learning curve, but by 1998, I had set up an old computer as a home server running Debian. I ran it on various systems until I moved to take a new job in 2006.
Over the last year or so (2014), I've started using Linux-based operating systems again. I started with Linux Mint because I'd heard it was the most user-friendly, but have also been running Debian on my desktop because its video card seemed to be incompatible with Linux Mint.
More recently, I joined a local part of the Ubuntu community, and have taken another look at Ubuntu and started using Lubuntu. I've started a blog and intend to write about my activities.
At this point, I use Windows 7, Mac OS and Linux, depending on what I'm doing and which computer is most convenient. My current hobbies include video games, making YouTube videos and watching various interesting movies, TV shows and videos on Netflix and Youtube.
